Recently I went to Nashville for a girl’s trip/bachelorette party. The best part about this story was that the first time meeting the honorary bride was the plane ride down!! Long story short, one of my best girlfriends invited me to her sisters bach trip, and this girl doesn't say no to a vacation in a new place these days!
'Old Catie', as I refer to my prior self before the divorce, would have been so uneasy about meeting all these new girls. And in a constant state of worry of whether or not they would like me. I would think about things like if I was going to wash the make-up off my face or not because then they would see my acne scars. I would find an excuse to not get in the pool so that I could stay under my cover-up because of my less than desirable cellulite. I used to do a lot of strange things because I was uncomfortable in my own skin. I never would have been able to instantly connect with these girls like I did!
Has this ever happened to you before? You meet new people and it is like you have known them forever? These girls, the Sortor sisters, were instantly like family to me. I never grew up with sisters, unfortunately, but watching them interact with each other and then involve me the way they did was like nothing I had ever felt before. I felt so welcomed and part of something...I’m not kidding guys, that sister thing is for real. There was even a few moments where I got a little sassy because of heat, PMS, sleepiness and being down right hangry...and nothing but love. Girls still loving me when I was imperfect...WHAT?!??!
Anyways, if I had to pick one thing that I enjoyed the most from the trip...it would be the scooters. LMAO okay, okay, I know they have them in Ann Arbor for goodness sake but I had never rode one before and let me tell you, if you haven't...GIRL get on a scooter ASAP! I swear I felt like a kid again! I am considering moving to a big city just so that I have the scooter option on a consistent basis!
The next favorite thing would be that bars have no cover. I am sure Nashville isn't the only place that doesn't have one. But I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that you can just go from bar to bar to bar and walking in the door doesn't cost you ten dollars. Ok, if I would act my age I probably wouldn't find myself in places that require a cover charge but since I have this unyielding urge to dance like it's 2006 again...I know about the cover and the hand stamps and there's no shame in my game either.
We ate Hattie B's Hot Chicken, sushi at this totally chill place called Virago and I finished with incredible salmon and risotto from Trattoria Mulino. We shopped and we stopped for pics at the Grand Ole’ Opry. There are boutique stores galore and the friendly people are endless.
Nashville was always a place I wanted to go, but never a place I assumed I’d love the way I did. If you haven’t been, go! And if it isn’t on your list make sure you put it on there right now! This trip definitely makes the top 5 on my list and I am just as surprised as you. Let it be the people or the place or a combination of the two, but it was amazing!
